When considering one for a business or home based application, several questions should be entertained before making your purchase.

Application Requirements:

The perimeter of the home requires cameras covering all four sides. The garage and front entrance door require indoor cameras to monitor who comes and goes. One camera in the kitchen of the house as this is the center to all rooms in this case.

Environmental Requirements: (Northern United states.)

Outdoor cameras will require a weatherproof enclosure with heating and cooling.
Internal cameras need to be inconspicuous.

Lighting variance:

Indoor cameras are normally exposed to home ambient lighting. A low lux rated indoor camera will be considered for the best flexibility.

Electrical considerations:

Source of Camera power:

Is 120vac power available near the mounting place of the network camera?

Network considerations:

Do you have a network? If the answer is no, then you need to consider installing a network enabling connectivity to the IP cameras.

Surveillance monitoring / recording requirements:

Our application requires motion based monitoring for the exterior of the home 24/7. The indoor cameras will only require motion based recording between the hours 7:30am and 6:00PM.

Integration requirements:

Be sure that the surveillance recording software is capable of supporting the desired cameras.
Pay attention to the surveillance software cost as some packages charge based on the number of cameras. Finally, select the correct camera with IR imaging capabilities were needed.

Benefits of Using Motion Detection in Network Camera Software

Executive summary about network camera by Wes Fernley

One of the advantages of the use of network cameras for video surveillance is power and flexibility provided by network camera software. One of the most powerful software functions is motion detection.

Automatic Alerts

By using motion detection with your network camera software, however, you can ensure that you are always informed should your camera catch anything. The software can be configured so as to automatically signal an alarm upon motion detection.

As Needed Video Recording

Keeping proper recordings of video surveillance feeds is critical should something occur to your place of business.

With motion detection network software this problem can be solved. The camera can be set to record only as needed, when motion is detected. If you have multiple cameras as part of your video surveillance system, you can even configure the software to activate recording for all cameras in the building if any one of them detects unusual motion.

Flexible Sensitivity

Network camera software can be further tweaked by checking the sensitivity of motion detection.
