How To Choose A 4 Channel Digital Video Recorder

by Andi Monthat

With so many digital video cameras in the market today, you might me confuse which one to choose. What type of security camera which suites my need? How many channels do I need? In order to make a right decision, you first have to identify what your need is from a digital video camera.

The first factor that determines your choice is the area you want to monitor. You will need a 4 channel digital video recorder, if you want to monitor 4 areas of your home, such as living room, kitchen, master bedroom, and the kid’s room. If you would like to watch more areas of your home, you off course need a digital video recorder which has more than 4 channels. If in doubt, try to consult a professional in order to make a right choice.

Every choice has its own consequence. The more channels you have in your digital video recorder system, the more disk space you will need. You also need more disk space if your digital video recorder system has more functions like night vision. Please keep in mind those digital video recorders with large storage capacities are considerably very expensive So, before you buy a digital video recorder with lots of disk space, you have to make sure to get a digital video recorder that match storage needs.

You might need to burn your surveillance videos unto CDs or DVDs for record purposes or just to free up some disk space. So, before you buy a 4 channel digital video recorder, you need to ask the technicians at the store if the DVR can support CD or DVD writers.

The most important thing that you have to look for in a digital video recorder is whether it is easy to operate, even by a novice user. You should buy a user-friendly digital video recorder with great security features such as motion detection, colored coded video bars, high quality video recording and playback, and remote viewing. Look for a digital video recorder that does not need high computer skills to operate even the most sophisticated functions.

The good quality digital video recorders with sophisticated functions are not cheap. But for the security of your home, price is not the only thing you should consider. If you need a sophisticated digital video recorder although it is expensive, go for it. An expensive digital video recorder will work better than a cheaper one.

Understanding Wireless Video Camera

by Andi Monthat

Nowadays, our everyday lives can not be separated from video camera systems. With these cameras, we can monitor what the babysitter is doing while watching our kids. These cameras also alert us when someone breaks into our home. We can even monitor if someone is swimming in our pools.

For home security purposes, there are essentially two types of video cameras available. The first type is wired video camera and the second type is wireless video camera. Both types are essentially using the same basic components: cameras, control panels, motion detectors, alarms, keypads, etc. A wired video camera system uses standard Ethernet cable to connect devices, while a wireless system connects devices via a wireless router. Wireless video camera systems enable you to place cameras anywhere you need as long as you’re within specified distance. With wired video camera systems you are limited by camera placement.

The option to go wired or wireless depends on your needs and convenience. Many home owners get both versions. But the wired and wireless video surveillance versions give the same advantages when it comes to your home security. The advantage of going for wired video camera system is the confidence that a particular area of your home is permanently covered. A wired video camera cannot be transferred from one area to other important areas, so you have to add more cameras and have these installed in these important areas.

The most advanced innovation in home security is the wireless video camera system. These systems are much less involved in installation as there are no wires to worry about or walls to rip up, drill into, or risk destroying your home. This system can save money up front by eliminating the need for repairing those things damaged during installation but might ultimately cost more, as the need to replace batteries is quite frequent.

You can do many things at the same time with a wireless video camera system as you can add more cameras as you need. You can check certain areas while looking at other areas without going to those areas. This will save you time from going to other areas just to see what is going on in those areas when urgent job needs to be done.

When you add a mobile viewer, the flexibility of the wireless video camera system is enhanced. You can see all the important areas whether you are in the living room, dining room, in the garage, or at other areas. A wireless video camera system will give you peace of mind and control over your home.

The Basic Facts of Wireless Security Cameras

By Andi Monthat

There are probably many reasons why wireless security cameras have been gaining popularity in recent years. Some people use wireless security cameras to monitor their home. Some people use it for surveillance of their store, office, banks or casinos. Other people even use them to monitor their nannies or their employees. Wireless security cameras are becoming the preferred method of security for many people, whatever the reason might be.

Wireless security cameras are first used to increase security in banks. They are now widely used everywhere as it has developed over the years to become inexpensive. Over a short period of time the use of wireless security cameras in public places, such as casinos, airports, and department stores, has increased exponentially.

Wireless security cameras are gaining popularity because of their ease of use. You can put the cameras anywhere you want because you don’t need wires for installation. In other words, wireless security cameras are very flexible and very easy to install. Nowadays, wireless security cameras are becoming more inexpensive.

The only disadvantage of wireless security cameras is that it requires you to change the battery pack every 4 to 8 hours. You have to recharge the battery packs, so it is best to keep extra packs.

How does wireless security camera work? A transmitter in the cameras sends video signals to a receiver. This receiver can be connected to a TV, VCR, computer, or other devices. You don’t need to install wires between the camera and the receiver. The wireless cameras can be placed 700 feet to 10 miles away from the receiver. The performance of the cameras depends on the type of cameras you buy. Good wireless security cameras can send video signals that can penetrate as much as 8 walls. The signals can even penetrate most solid objects such as glass, plastic, wood, fiber glass, and some metals.

If you want to get maximum performance of a security camera, buy branded one. Money shouldn’t be  an issue for your security.
