Understanding DVR Security Cameras

By Andi Monthat

As security becomes more interesting topic in today’s life, security system also gets more attention from society. One of the most popular security systems is DVR (digital video recorder) security systems.  A DVR is a device that accepts analog signals from a security camera, converts it into digital format, and stores it on a hard drive. The camera that is used in this system is called DVR security cameras. DVR security cameras transmit digital signals to a hard drive or a DVR security camera recorder. The DVR security system then uses these signals for documentation and detection procedures In order for the user to manage the captured videos; a DVR also has a user interface. This system allows you to set motion detection feature and control the cameras that are also popular by CCTV cameras.

DVR security camera systems display a clear and sharp image. They are perfectly scalable to your expanding number of security cameras. The most important feature of DVR security cameras is its easy navigation. With this feature, you can jump to any video without rewinding or forwarding. One other feature of DVR security cameras is motion detection. DVR security cameras enable you to see who is approaching your home at all times. DVR security cameras are also have remote access capabilities. It can view your home or business remotely from any computer with Internet access. DVR security cameras provide instant playback with no time-consuming rewinding or fast forwarding.

DVR security cameras also have some drawbacks. One of the drawbacks relate to its output. We may require different software to view the file of different security cameras. Some DVR security cameras only support certain media player.  On the other hand, some DVR security camera system has its own media player. Other drawback relates to storage capacity. Digital video occupies lot of space on the hard disk and hence the hard disk is easily filled up. If the camera adjustment is not done properly at the time of set up, image distortion occurs. This is the other drawback of DVR security cameras.

DVR security camera systems come with 24 bit true color video, hardware video compression for fast video delivery. DVR security camera systems also have their own virus care system disk on module and built in multiplexer function. They also have built in web server, e-mail and FTP server alarm notification. DVR security cameras also have recording by motion detection function and pre-alarm function. DVR security cameras vary from 4 camera channels and 1 audio channel to 16 camera channels and 16 audio channels.

How To Choose A 4 Channel Digital Video Recorder

by Andi Monthat

With so many digital video cameras in the market today, you might me confuse which one to choose. What type of security camera which suites my need? How many channels do I need? In order to make a right decision, you first have to identify what your need is from a digital video camera.

The first factor that determines your choice is the area you want to monitor. You will need a 4 channel digital video recorder, if you want to monitor 4 areas of your home, such as living room, kitchen, master bedroom, and the kid’s room. If you would like to watch more areas of your home, you off course need a digital video recorder which has more than 4 channels. If in doubt, try to consult a professional in order to make a right choice.

Every choice has its own consequence. The more channels you have in your digital video recorder system, the more disk space you will need. You also need more disk space if your digital video recorder system has more functions like night vision. Please keep in mind those digital video recorders with large storage capacities are considerably very expensive So, before you buy a digital video recorder with lots of disk space, you have to make sure to get a digital video recorder that match storage needs.

You might need to burn your surveillance videos unto CDs or DVDs for record purposes or just to free up some disk space. So, before you buy a 4 channel digital video recorder, you need to ask the technicians at the store if the DVR can support CD or DVD writers.

The most important thing that you have to look for in a digital video recorder is whether it is easy to operate, even by a novice user. You should buy a user-friendly digital video recorder with great security features such as motion detection, colored coded video bars, high quality video recording and playback, and remote viewing. Look for a digital video recorder that does not need high computer skills to operate even the most sophisticated functions.

The good quality digital video recorders with sophisticated functions are not cheap. But for the security of your home, price is not the only thing you should consider. If you need a sophisticated digital video recorder although it is expensive, go for it. An expensive digital video recorder will work better than a cheaper one.

Understanding Wireless Video Camera

by Andi Monthat

Nowadays, our everyday lives can not be separated from video camera systems. With these cameras, we can monitor what the babysitter is doing while watching our kids. These cameras also alert us when someone breaks into our home. We can even monitor if someone is swimming in our pools.

For home security purposes, there are essentially two types of video cameras available. The first type is wired video camera and the second type is wireless video camera. Both types are essentially using the same basic components: cameras, control panels, motion detectors, alarms, keypads, etc. A wired video camera system uses standard Ethernet cable to connect devices, while a wireless system connects devices via a wireless router. Wireless video camera systems enable you to place cameras anywhere you need as long as you’re within specified distance. With wired video camera systems you are limited by camera placement.

The option to go wired or wireless depends on your needs and convenience. Many home owners get both versions. But the wired and wireless video surveillance versions give the same advantages when it comes to your home security. The advantage of going for wired video camera system is the confidence that a particular area of your home is permanently covered. A wired video camera cannot be transferred from one area to other important areas, so you have to add more cameras and have these installed in these important areas.

The most advanced innovation in home security is the wireless video camera system. These systems are much less involved in installation as there are no wires to worry about or walls to rip up, drill into, or risk destroying your home. This system can save money up front by eliminating the need for repairing those things damaged during installation but might ultimately cost more, as the need to replace batteries is quite frequent.

You can do many things at the same time with a wireless video camera system as you can add more cameras as you need. You can check certain areas while looking at other areas without going to those areas. This will save you time from going to other areas just to see what is going on in those areas when urgent job needs to be done.

When you add a mobile viewer, the flexibility of the wireless video camera system is enhanced. You can see all the important areas whether you are in the living room, dining room, in the garage, or at other areas. A wireless video camera system will give you peace of mind and control over your home.
